Import on the photos app extremely slow then crashing

Importing photos from iPhone is very slow , then crashes.

I am using a 2011 macbook pro with 16gb ram and connecting to an iPhone 6 plus.

I have installed all the recent updates and the problem persists!

Really stuck here. I suspect it is an Apple issue, does anyone know of any workarounds other than using another software ?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Importing photos from iPhone is very slow , then crashes.

There are three possible common reasons for this problem:

  • You may be running out of storage on your Mac. Do you have enough free storage to accommodate the photos and videos you want to import plus at least 10 to 20 GB extra storage for the operating system and the apps as working storage?
  • The Photos library may need repairing. Have you tried to repair it after the crashes? See this link: Repair your library
  • And you may have unreadable photos or videos on your iPhone. In that case it can help to import the photos to a folder on your Desktop using Image Capture to get the photos of your iPhone and then delete them from your iPhone. Afterward import the photos and videos from the folder to one by one or in small groups to find the one that has been causing the problems.
