"No partition found, insert USB cable and fix it"

Hi!

I got a used iPod Classic 120G, but when I power it up, all it does is say "No partition found, insert USB cable and fix it". I'm going to assume the original software has been replaced, but I don't know what with. iTunes or Windows won't detect it through USB, so my options are rather limited.
