startup password fail

I have a macbook pro retina (mid 2012), yosemite 10.10.4. After shutdown and restart, I cannot enter any kind of password, from one lower case letter on up. I can successfully reset the password and then login. I can also login from sleep. This problem began with the yosemite upgrade. What is a solution? Thanks.

Good morning Bogtyr99,

If you are unable to enter your administrator user account password when you start your computer, here are a couple of things to try:
Reset your password, and shut down your computer. Then start up in Safe Mode and see if you are able to enter your password. If successful, shut down the computer and start up as normal. Does the password work now?

If that doesn't work, create a new user account with a different password and see if you are able to login normally.
