Q: Widget problems

Hi Folks - looked at Mission Control and saw it was full of widgets...some I no longer need.

When I held down a widget icon the 'jiggling' started but there was no way to delete ie

there wasn't a + or - signs showing (as other discussion intimated) ergo

no way to delete.

Can anyone advise? Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

    Hello gurujok,

Thanks for reaching out for troubleshooting on Apple Support Communities. To make sure we are on the same pages, you need to get rid of some widgets that you have on Dashboard.

If you are not seeing the Remove (–) button button, it is located in the lower left hand corner of your screen and then you should be able to see the (X) to click on them to remove them. Take a look at the first link for more information.

Just to cover all bases, if you are referring to app that are in your LaunchPad, you can click on hold on the apps that you have downloaded from the Mac App Store. Once you have done that you should see them jiggle and be able to click on the (X) that shows up on the app. Not all apps are able to be deleted from LaunchPad, if there is one you do not want, you will want to move it to the trash from the Applications Folder. For more information, take a look at the second article.

    thanks norm - that helped.

I eventually deleted apps from applications folder.

Strange thing is - when I hit F4 (mission c.) the apps and the dock show.

But there are no + - buttons on bottom left, only the occasional + on apple icons.

    Hey gurujok,

The (+) and (-) buttons will only appear in Dashboard to remove any widgets that you have installed. When you want to see your apps that you have on your computer, you will use LaunchPad. LaunchPad will show all the apps and your dock so that is expected. You will not see a + and - button to delete apps from there. You will either use the method that you used to remove the apps if they were not downloaded from the Mac App Store or the original way you were trying to delete apps by click and holding the app to see them jiggle and the (X) button.

Glad to know that you got it figured out and take care.
