"Deleted" a Guest user login, Won't quit loading! help!

I have a user login for another person, I went through the process of deleting it in users & groups. Except after doing this, it just continuously says "deleting account..." It has been 5 days. It won't let me shut down or restart my macbook because "system preferences is still open." I can't close this because it says it's "in use."

Basically I can't turn my computer off, and I even tried letting the battery die. When I plugged it back in - system preferences was still open and STILL DELETING!

There was barely anything on this user login account except for a few small files. WHY is this taking so long? Seems like everyone else who does this gets theirs deleted immediately. Is there something wrong with my macbook?
