Can't update apps

Hi I can't update my apps anymore. This issue has only popped up recently in the last 4-5 days? ipad 2 ios 7.04 (can't update to latest ios version though i don't really want to). can't check on another idevice since I only have an ipad 2.

when i'm in the itunes store, there are curently 10 apps that need to be updated but i only want to update 1 app, i click on 'UPDATE' and then it mysteriously opens up the app. It out right refuses to update the app. i've tried updating multiple apps just to see if it was only one app effected. nope. still the same result. i have enough memory, just barely though, but it's more than the required amount needed for the update.

any info or tips to solve my issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. FYI i'm trying to update the fallout shelter (game) app.
