Q: iMessage Sync

I am aware that there is a discussion out there about iMessage not in sync between iMac, iPad, iPhone, MacBook Pro. The discussion is aged (2 years or more) and looking at the various posts and replies I cannot determine if a solution was ever achieved

Does anyone know if iMessage synchronisation was achieved OR are the delays and problems relating to messages being out of order still the status quo?

I need iMessage to synch between my iMacs and MacBook Pro's to assist the smooth running of my business. But at this stage it seems that Apple are perpetuating a dud function...or perhaps it is me not using the function correctly

OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 is on all machines

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

    Hi,

Messages on Mac and iPhone will sync in Yosemite.

Check first that the iPhone and Mac are Syncing the Contacts List.

Preferably in the Contacts app > Preferences > Accounts have only one method active (i.e iCloud or Google but not both).

Next check the iPhone > Settings > Messages > Send and Receive.

This should list the iPhone Number but it should be greyed out and ticked (As well as the Apple ID)

If the Number is Unticked then syncing will break down after a while as the Number becomes de-registered.

If this is the case remove the Apple ID (Sign Out) and place the iPhone In Airplane Mode (it breaks with the server).

On going back to the settings allow the Number to Verify.

    Add the Apple ID back.

Accept the pop ups on the Mac about the iPhone (restart the app if you don't see them)

If people are messaging you to iPhone Number and the Apple ID have Receive At on the Mac showing both.

Same for the Send and Receive on the iPhone.

    Hi

I have the same problem and have tried what you suggested but with no success.

Is there anything else I should try?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Don't presume you know what was set and expect it to still be the same.

    Actually go and check.

What are the settings showing currently on the iPhone in:-

Settings > Messages (Give me the titles you see)

Send and Receive (I don't need the actual ID and iPhone Number just that they are actually active)

SMS/MMS setting in the Settings for Messages.

In Send and Receive which ID is the "Start From" ID

    On the Mac:-

Which version of the OS ?

What shows in the Messages > Preferences > Accounts for the iMessages account in the Receive At list ?

How many show they are active ?

Which ID is the Start From, if there is one showing ?

If all appears normal then reset everything.

Sign Out of the Apple ID on all devices.

Then Quit the app on the phone (turn the App Off)

On the Mac Quit the app once the ID is removed.

Then start with the iPhone and activate Messages and wait for the iPhone Number to verify.

On the Mac open the app and add back the Apple ID.

Test sending an iMessage from the iPhone (which can only use it's number to send) to the Mac's Apple ID

    Return the iMessage.

If this works add the Apple ID to the iPhone.

Accept the Pop up on the Mac about what the iPhone is using.

Set the Text Forwarding if required.

This does need the iPhone to be on the LAN in the Wifi settings.

    Thanks for your reply.

    OK

iPhone - Settings > messages has about ten headings.  Send and Receive > has my mobile number greyed out with a  tick, and my email address with a tick.

SMS/MMS settings has MMS messaging ON and subject field and character count OFF.  Send as SMS is ON.

Send and Receive the start from is my mobile number.

    The Mac is version 10.10.5

In Messages > Preferences > accounts there is my email address and AOL AIM (which I don’t use).  It says ‘you can be reached at‘ the mobile number and email address are both active.

My mobile number is the ‘start from’.

I’ll try your reset suggestion later today and see how it goes.

    Thanks again

    Kathryn

    Hi,

So the iPhone's Own Number is active for iMessages in Send and Receive.

It is also set to send SMS as an alternative to non iPhone numbers.

The Mac Version in the iMessages account seems to be showing it is syncing with the iPhone Number and Apple ID.

Many people go for the option that the Mac should use the same ID as the iPhone (in this case the iPhone Number) when Starting conversations.

At first glance this should be working and I can only suggest the resetting of the iPhone to see if it changes the behaviour.
