Q: Messages app shows all numbers for contacts as available for text messaging. Obviously home and work lines cannot receive messages. How can I remove them from Messages database?

When I start a new message and type in a contact, ALL relevant info shows in the drop-down. Email, Cell/iPhone, home and work numbers. Obviously home and work cannot receive messages. However, after a second, the labels go away and I'm left with 'Number, Text Message', which is confusing if I don't automatically remember which number is which or if I missed the 1-second display.

Is there a way to 'turn off' entries that should not show up in Messages?  I've tried searching for solutions, but have not hit on the right keyword combination.

thanks

    HI,

Messages has always displayed all the numbers and all the emails that a Contact has.

It also tries to suggest which will be iMessages  and which will be other services (Jabber IDs look like emails).

Mine constantly tries to tell me my own Land Line is an iMessages option if I stick in part of my own name for demos and picture grabbing more recently though it has moved the Land Line to a Text Chat suggestion.

If I partly complete the Name of the contact it stays on display for as long as I want.
