Safari 5.1.10 is the last version of Safari for OS X 10.6.8
Your options are to either upgrade from OS X 10.6.8 or if you cannot or do not want to do that you could install a different browser. Firefox is a good option: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
ahhh....good question
currently, Safari is not available as a stand-alone download. You have to upgrade the OS to get a newer copy. To do that, get your Apple ID and go to the App store which is built into your MacBook pro. sign in and grab a copy of Yosemite. which is free. Be advised that once you upgrade to Yosemite, you cannot downgrade to snow leopard without a lot of fussing around--however 99% of the stuff you have now will work just fine in Yosemite. But once you have upgraded to Yosemite, make sure you get the 10.10.4 update as well, if it's not already there.

Safari can be updated with Software update, however, as the people above have mentioned Safari version (5.1.10) is the last version that OS X 10.6.8 supports. If you want a newer version, you need to upgrade your operating system, which you can do for free with the App Store.
