shows 'fully charged' plug icon in corner but the green battery indicator is not full

I have an iPod touch 4th gen, it works great however I have been having charging issues

whenever I charge, sometimes the 'fully charged' plug icon will appear in the top right corner, however the big green battery indicator on the lock screen would only appear to be two-thirds full.

when I do unplug, the battery always appear to be at 80-85% rather than 100% full. Why is this?

Also, sometimes when I charge ipod using the plug (or everytime when i connect it to my laptop)- it will say 'charging is not supported with this accessory' on the screen

this is what it looks like when I charge using my plug and cable:

This

when I charge ipod using the plug (or everytime when i connect it to my laptop)- it will say 'charging is not supported with this accessory' on the screen

typically means a problem with the cable or the dock connector in the iPod.

Try:

- A new cable

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

For the indicator problem:

- Try letter the battery drainu ntil the iPod turns off

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
