Best way to crop an m4a music file

I am working on a slideshow using Photos for Mac. I am using a song in my iTunes library. Unfortunately, it has 4 seconds of silence at the end of the file that I need to cut out. I want to know the best method to use to shorten the file. Should I use garage band? And if so - How?

Instead of GarageBand, I would use iMovie for the purpose of you slideshow project. That way you can have more freedom/control and visual reference synchronizing you music with your video. The learning curve is similar as that of GarageBand but with more appropriate results for you goal.

Is this a track from Apple Music (this forum)? I don't think you can edit those or save them in an alternative format for use with another application.

Is this a purchased or ripped m4a? You are probably best using Garageband or similar application. I have never tried this method but it used to be you could use iTunes Get Info to set start and stop points in a track, then convert the track to another file and produce an edited version. The problem with that method is conversion results in quality loss. Best is to use an editing program such as Garageband (which I do not own) or Audacity or even MPEGStreamclip to trim the ends and re-save the file without conversion.
