Q: Disk Utility verify or repair failed...

On my iMac (Power PC) G5, and using the disk utility for iOS X10.5.8 I get an error message of "Invalid B-tree node size, volume check failed, Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed"  Is there anything I can do?

iMac G5 (20-inch), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Yes. Repair the hard drive using the Leopard install disk.

That's a common directory error.  As suggested, you can boot from the Mac OS DVD and run Disk Utility to scan/repair the hard drive.  If you would like a more thorough utility, capable of correcting reported directory errors that Disk Utility cannot, you might consider purchasing "DiskWarrior."  Over the years in these Forums, DiskWarrior users have reported success in resolving problems with badly-corrupted directories and were able to avoid reformatting their hard drives.

Actually, only Jeff's answer was helpful.  I still have to find DiskWarrior and try it out to see if it will work. (Can't seem to figure out how to remove the 'helpful' star from Klaus' reply.)

I was using the replacement iOS X 10.5.8 disk to try to repair the problem when I got the error message.
