Jul 15, 2015 11:50 AM in response to Ddcreatureby jason269,Hello, Ddcreature.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to sync your iPad and receiving an alert that the device is no longer connected. Here are the troubleshooting steps that I would go through for this issue.
If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac
You also may need to make sure that you have selected the option to 'Trust This Computer' on both devices.
'Trust This Computer' alert on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Aug 7, 2015 1:44 PM in response to jason269by ESGHollowglen,Unfortunately, none of the "fixes" I have seen mentioned in these threads seem to work. I have tried rebooting both my imac and ipad, resetting the ipad, changing USB cables, etc. Nothing work. It just keeps sending a message repeatedly without end that "this device is no longer connected". Any other ideas?

Aug 7, 2015 1:49 PM in response to ESGHollowglenby ESGHollowglen,ok - so I decided to do one more thing: clear the existing trust relationship between the computer and ipad. Guess what - that seems to have worked. Though initially there seems to have been a slight glitch in the initial back up - but when I ran a manual back up it worked.

Sep 13, 2015 6:08 PM in response to ESGHollowglenby MiniMe2,Are you willing to tell us what you mean by "clear the existing trust relationship between the computer and iPad" so that we can apply your solution to ourselves? I googled that phrase but didn't find any answer.

Sep 13, 2015 6:37 PM in response to MiniMe2by MiniMe2,SOLVED ------> I tried the long process of deleting all traces of iTunes and reinstalling iTunes (another thread on this site documents that). That didn't solve the problem. Then I had an idea: if it isn't a software problem (as reinstalling iTunes should represent "the software") then maybe it's a hardware problem. So I looked at my hardware. I'm using an Apple docking station which consists of a cable and a 3-inch square docking station. I decided to remove the docking station from the equation, so I unplugged the cable from the docking station and plugged that directly into my iPad. Bingo! It was the docking station all along!
