Q: Home Button Issues

The home button on my ipad requires a hard press or multiple presses to activate. I started seeing this problem a couple days ago. I have owned this iPad for 2 years now and bought it new in Feburary 2013, so taking it to an apple store is out of the question unless I want to pay money. This is really bugging me as I am used to hearing the audible "click" when I press it with a light tap, but I does not do this and therefore requires me to press down on it really, really hard once or twice to use it and even then it makes no sound. It still registers a press, so it is not completely dead. I tried calibrating it, didn't work, tried putting some rubbing alcohol on it, didn't work, I tried forcing it upwards with my lightning jack, still didn't work. Other than the home button, my device still looks and works like new.

iPad Mini, iOS 8.4, 16 gb, Wi-Fi only, white and silver

    Until you can get the Home button repaired, you can use Assistive Touch which floats a virtual button on-screen which can mimic all hardware buttons on the device, including the Home button.

    * Enable AssistiveTouch

    Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch: turn ON

    Use AssistiveTouch on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    I personally use Assistive Touch on ALL of my devices even though their Home buttons are all fine. The Home buttons are used only once in a great while like for device operations (forced Restart, etc). The Home button is the most used button on any iDevice and I simply use Assistive Touch to minimize wear & tear on the hardware buttons. Assistive Touch may take a bit to get used to but once you gotten past that little hurdle, you'll be fine.
