Just updated to iTunes 12.2.1 for mac and found that it is extremely slow - is anyone else having this issue?

I just updated to iTunes 12.2.1 and it is extremely slow to add music or edit mp3 tags. Is anyone else having this issue? All I get is the spinning beach ball for about a minute if I edit an mp3 tag. This is unbelievable and unacceptable. I had no issues with version 12.1. Why did Apple release 12.2.1 without fixing this issue that was also in version 12.2? I hope version 12.2.2 is immediately on its way to fix this slowness issue.

Do you know if it is possible to save your playlists somehow before you do this rather than only saving those from your iphone? Can you export or back up your existing playlists and then reinstall them as a file afterward? Senuti only seems to backup from iphone and then install those later, but not sure even if it actually installs them on the computer or just back to your phone.

Does anyone know about this?

I hesitate, well more than hesitate, with all my fiber I don't want to do this and risk losing the thousands of playlists Ive painstakingly created.

Thanks...

I was wondering if you could be a bit more specific about the issues you were having before. I saw that you were having trouble with playlists etc, but were you having the extremely slow response times, very sluggish editing issues, etc? I'm just curious...I will eventually install this new update but I'm just trying to get an idea of how its helped people. Someone else stated that it didn't help at all, so I wonder if there are certain things it helped with but the overall performance it didn't help with.

I think I'm willing to try the "nuclear" option, where I back up everything to another disc, reinstall then, copy over my library and playlists again, hoping that nothing would change except the "Date Added" fields which I do like to use but would be willing to sacrifice.

Thanks...Keep posting other experiences with 12.2.2 and I'll do the same once I have time to do the update.

anodyne75,

I did the 12.2.2 upgrade and I am still experiencing the same issues: Extremely slow to add music, edit info content, CPU jumps to 100% in Activity Monitor, and "iTunes Not Responding" if you do a Force Quit, etc. All of these issues still exist in 12.2.2. I have opened up a NEW thread for that version. Same subject line, different iTunes version. Upgrading will not solve this issue. Apparently this is not a Mac only issue. It is being reported in the iTunes for Windows community as well.

Thanks Zifix. This fixed my problem instantly. Before that iTunes was unusable. Pathetic update, my computer was using over 9 gigs of ram with only iTunes open before this fix. I've always thought iTunes was great, but Apple screwed the pooch with this update all the way around.

Having to update this way has deleted all of the music I had added from Apple Music since iCloud Music Library is turned off after signing out and back in, but that service is terrible too so I'm glad it did. You look really bad today Apple.

The playlist issue was solved by logging out, logging back in. But the slowness persisted in 12.2.1. Rather than go through the elaborate solution suggested I decided to wait for Apple to fix it and for me, this has worked, at least to a degree. There remains some hesitancy, especially upon first starting up, not sure if this is related to the size of my library, about 24 thousand songs, 4 thousand some playlists, but the performance does not evoke the frustration it had before. In addition, I eventually downloaded the Combo update from Apple's site and that seems not to have made an appreciable difference from the initial improvement achieved by the updates from the App Store.
