ipod shuffle 2nd generation ipod wont charge but is recognized in itunes

My 2nd generation ipod shuffle wont charge when connected to my computer. The orange light flashes a few times as it connects and syncs to iTunes. Then the orange light goes out. It use to remain on steady orange until it was charged and then it would turn green once it had a full charge. I have updated both iTunes and my ipod. I would appreciate any suggestions.
