where did you transfer the photos form and how did you transfer them
How did you try to add the places - what exactly dod there weren't recognized mean?

Jul 14, 2015 7:09 AM in response to LarryHNby m1cha0l,Hi Larry,
I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4.3.
I transferred the photos from my Canon G16 using a cable connection via a USB, as I have always done. I then went to the Info page and when I came to "assign a place" the heading and map appeared as usual but, as soon as I put in a place name the map in the box disappeared although a pin did appear on a blank/white screen. If I go to a photo that has been assigned a place before, the place name appears but the small screen on the bottom right hand side is white/blank.
On the Library page under places there was no map only the red pins on a white screen from the places I'd assigned before.
Hope this helps,
Many thanks,
Mike

Jul 14, 2015 9:38 AM in response to m1cha0lby Old Toad,Apple's contract with Google Maps expired a few weeks back and Places is no longer working with older versions of iPhoto. iPhoto 5 and 6 with Mavericks and Yosemite use the Apple Maps and do work. We have no idea if or when Apple will upgrade older versions of iPhoto to use Apple's Maps.
Send your fix request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

OSX 10.7.5 would be Lion. Or are you using 10.6.8 (snow leopard)?
The upgrade from MacOS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard would make older software obsolete, because the Rosetta environment is no longer supported.
Going from 10.7.5 to Yosemite is less dramatic, but quite a few applications switched to 64-bit only versions. The newer MacOS X versions have new security features that will render some plug-ins and external editors incompatible.
