Is "Erase all content and settings" enough?

A few different places state that the "Erase all Content and Settings" is not enough. That the data can still be recovered and specialized softwares should be used to secure erase the device.

Is this true? or is this just a scam to get people to purchase those softwares?

Unless someone is using FBI grade software the data is gone. If you're feeling really paranoid, delete the info you're concerned about, write over it by filling your iPad up with 'junk' info (such as movies or the like, data that's not yours), then do the erase all content and settings.

The more you 'write over' data, the harder it is to recover. You delete your into and write over it, you've made it harder to recover
