after installing iOS 8.4 my music playlists will not shuffle, they just repeat the same song. How do you get it to shuffle again?

It sounds like you need to deactivate repeating and activate shuffle on your iPhone. You will want to first tap on the miniplayer element of the screen when you are in the Music app, which is illustrated below:
