Orphaned photos in Photos.app

Hello All,

I have recent vacation photos that are orphaned in my new Photos.app library. The photos where mostly taken with my iPhone 6 and transferred into the library via Photos.app. The missing photos where taken from June 25 to July 1st and imported directly into Photos.app.

The orphaned photos are in the Photo Library bundle and viewable in Finder, but not in the library database. I have Command-Option repaired the database, but the photos do not repopulate.

My system is a MacBook Pro 15 (mid 2012) with Yosemite and an iPhone 6. Everything is current at 10.10.4 and 8.4 respectively. I do not use iCloud for photos.

I am concerned that there are other orphaned photos that I am unaware. Is there a way to get Photos.app to recover orphaned photos?

Attached is a screen shot of a missing photo in Finder. All the photos in that directory (and others) are MIA from Photos.app.

All the photos in that directory (and others) are MIA from Photos.app.

What are you seeing in Photos? Are there black thumbnails?

How have you searched for the photos in Photos? Have you searched by typing one of the filenames into the search field?

No indication of the files exist in Photos.app. Search does not yield results. No black boxes.

It is as if the files where never there.

Just to be sure, you have checked the "Recently Deleted" album, haven't you?

Copy one of the orphans out of the Masters folder to your Desktop and try to import it again. Does Photos show it as a duplicate? If yes, import it nevertheless, and in the "Last Import" album select it. Ctrl-click the imported photo and use the command "Show in Moment". If the photos are still in your library, Photos should show you where they are hiding. If it is not recognized as a duplicate, copy all orphans out of the library and import them again.

I'm a little embarrassed that it took me that long to find the "Recently Deleted" album in the new app. But when I did finally manage to make the album visible, my photos were there.

Argh. That was less than intuitive.
