Sudden gmail connection problem on 10.6.8

I'm using apple mail on OS 10.6.8. MacPro. none of my 3 gmail accounts are connecting all of a sudden. Ipad and Iphone work fine. All my other accounts are fine. I've rebooted, quit and restarted mail. Rebooted my router. Nothing works.

Please don't tell me to update my OS because I won't be able to run too many of my programs!
