Wifi Issue MacBook Air

I've had my 2011 macbook air for quite a while but recently I've encountered a wifi issue

At a certain point in my house the wifi speed drops from 40mbps to 0.2mbps, however the signal remains strong, none of my iOS devices or my windows ones have a problem, is it likely a software or hardware issue?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

I'm using a standard wireless router provided by virgin media, the place I'm trying to use it works fine on my older pro and all my windows devices as well as my iPad and phone, the signal strength remains on full but the speed drops to about 1%, is there likely to be a hardware issue with it?
