install older OS using Virtual Box

My 15 year old son with disabilities has successfully used some software that is no longer being supported. The last version ran on Mac OS 10.4, 10.5, 10.6. However, his 2008 MacBook that ran Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is dead.

I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB Memory) with Mac OS 10.10.

Can I use Virtual Box to create a virtual machine onto which I can install Snow Leopard? (I have a retail disc that is 10.6.3).

If so, can someone give me step-by-step instructions for the settings, etc?

Thank you.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I don't know if Virtual Box will support Snow Leopard. I do know that VMware Fusion does, but it will only permit a simple installation of Snow Leopard Server. That must be purchased by phone from the Apple Store (1-800-MY-APPLE (800-692-7753)). Once you get to a real person, you need to be clear that what you want is Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard - Unlimited Client License which is Part # MC588Z/A. At $20, it's a good deal.
