Q: Genius results can’t be updated because the iTunes Store doesn’t recognize your iTunes library.

Hello

I am getting the following error in iTunes when attempting to upload songs to iCloud, using my iTunes Match account.

"Genius results can’t be updated because the iTunes Store doesn’t recognize your iTunes library.

Please turn off Genius using the Store menu, then turn it back on.

This message will be dismissed in xx seconds."

The problem is, there is no 'Store' menu. I don't know how to get this error to stop. I have turned off Match in the store, turned it back on. Deactivated the machine and reactivated it.

Thank you

Cooch

    Hi,

Try signing out of iTunes. Close iTunes then reopen. Sign back into iTunes and go to preferences > general preferences and make sure that icloud music library is checked. Next go to file > library and select update iCloud music library.

Well this did indeed cure the Genius unrecognised problem BUT and a BIG BUT when I closed and reopened iTunes and signed back in etc the My Music library had changed from the 21000+ songs i had before and still have stored on my PC, down to just 946 !!!!!!!!   Those 946 songs were just ones I had reinstalled before to my library from my files and folders for just a small amount of the hundreds of songs that were previously greyed out since signing up to Apple Music with iTunes 12.2.   At least those are shown as uploading to the cloud and were many of The Beatles songs that were originally greyed out.

Luckily I saved my 4 small iTunes library files (and they are backed up with the complete C Drive regularly anyway onto my NAS drive) closing iTunes and restoring those 4 saved files and reopen iTunes restores my 21000 + songs library but back to the genius unrecognised library problem. So round in circles and so very frustrated for trying to do something that Apple should have ensured worked flawlessly!!!!!!!!  What next ??

This is really terrible I just want my music library to shwo correctly with no greyed out songs just because Apple Music does not have them on their library.  Apple these days just keep getting these things wrong for what should potentially be an excellent system.

The Apple Misc streaming services work very well so For You, New, Radio etc all work perfectly on my PC and iPhone 4S.  Problem is just with the My Music library files and specifically those that do not match with the Apple Music catalogue.

    Jim,

Thank you so much!  I was just about to have a stroke.  I could not get the "iTunes Store doesn't recognize your iTunes Library" message to go away no matter what I tried.  I then made the mistake of trying to contact Apple Support and repeatedly got the useful "We're Sorry.  We are unable to complete your request at this time" message from them.

Your suggestion worked like a charm.  Thanks for saving me a trip to the hospital!
