"Listening Back" while taping to Audacity?

Is it system preferences, sound audio line input that I do to hear what I am trying to digitize from a cassette tape? I just can not hear what I am recording as I go along? Any suggestons please. Also what is the easiest and most effficient way of recording to Mac from Cassette tape?

Thank You Klaus1. That does seem to be the easiest solution. 🙂 However I am a amateur songwriter and I need to put some recordings into a digital format. I have an M Audio Soundcard but I can not get that to work for some reason so a direct route through Audacity seems to be the best solution. But I need to edit and to do this I need to hear. I will try the headphones.
