safari too new for my os x

Hello everybody!

I sincerely apologise if this has ever been asked before or isn't posted in the correct forum!!

I am completely useless when it comes to things like this and would really appreciate an idiots guide to sorting my safari problem!

I was browsing something online a couple of days ago and the browser told me it was incompatible and safari needed to be updated to a newer version, after clicking the link and installing the newest version I didnt think nothing of it and carried on with my business (didnt realise at the time I never closed my browser down giving no chance for the fresh install to open up so was effectively still using the older version whilst browsing!)

A few days later I opened up my mac turned it on and the safari symbol was pale with a kind of stop symbol and would not load when clicked on! remembering I had once used chrome and also firefox I began to search for those but found that they both too had the same pale symbol and same cross over the top, a very stupid idea I then had was to delete anything internet browser related inset my original disks and install a fresh version of applications to my hard drive which included safari after rebooting I click on safari for a message to pop up saying that this version is too new for my os x please could somebody put me right my mac is very old (possibly 3,1 2007 model) but never til now let me down, always updated fine with no issues and holds lots of photos and files I really dont want to lose.

Please please please could some kind person write me out an idiots step by step guide to get the internet browser working again (doesnt necessarily have to be safari) but lets me keep all my data thats stored on the macbook itself.

Thanks in advance and again apologies if in the wrong section or has been asked before!

The Safari app that runs on v10.5.8 cannot be updated to the newest version given your OS X v10.5.8 is five operating systems behind. Even if you restored v10.5.8 with an install disc, be aware, Apple has not provided security for such an old system in years.

Even if you could install v10.10 Yosemite which is the latest OS X, given the fact that it's a 2007 Mac, the old hardware would struggle to keep up with a new OS X.

I hate being the bearer of bad news but it's time for a new Mac.
