Using an iMac 2.8 G Intel Core 2 Duo. Got rid of Yosemite (Yahoo!🙂). Back to Snow Leopard😟. Can't get itunes 10.6.3 to install. Downloaded it from Apple site. Tried the 10.6.3 update with same result. Any ideas?

Error message is "Unknown error".
Installing Snow Leopard probably put some version of iTunes on there. What version was installed?
What is the "10.6.3 update"? If you are using the 10.6.3 installer that is an update to previous versions, but is not an update to itself. 😕
Ok. So the iTunes 10.6.3 prog. won't install. Gives me the "An unknown installation error occurred. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail...", when I try to install.
Someone suggested installing ITunes 10.7 but it requires a OSX 10.6.8 or later platform.
The version of iTunes that came with Snow Leopard is 9.0.2.

This is absolutely correct.
But OS X 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard! It's just the latest version of Snow Leopard.
Simply click "Check for Updates" on the Apple symbol dropdown from the Menu Bar and update to OS X 10.6.8. I cannot imagine why you would even hesitate to do that.
Thanks for the reply Sb. Now running OSX 10.6.8. But I'm back @ square 1. Tried installing iTunes 10.7, no dice. Same error message: Unknown installation error etc. Any ideas?

What happens if you now go to:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download ?
Will that site advise you to download some version of iTunes 11? Anyway, I'm thinking it will suggest the latest version of iTunes your machine can run.
Let's recap from square one. Your computer was running Yosemite. You backed up, inserted the installer disc, wiped the hard drive, installed 10.6.3 which you then took to OSX 10.6.8. Right? If you did anything else I am wondering if iTunes is finding some newer component somewhere and that is preventing the installation.
