Q: apple tv playback repeatedly cuts out reverting to main menu

During playback of movies I've downloaded, movie unexpectedly stops and returns to main menu screen.  Playback runs for 5-10 mins at most. Have checked all network settings, which appear to be ok, but maybe i've missed something.  Software is update and also tried resetting box.  Any ideas?

AppleTV 2, iOS 8.4

    Indicates a network issue

    If on wifi try ethernet

To see a current status of the network go to istumbler, netstumbler or similar for a report. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks

I am guessing you are using WiFi for AppleTV?   WiFi is not a great option for streaming video (especially HD ) since it has very little tolorence constant interference and hiccups you have with wireless connections.  Unless you have carrier grade WiFi hardware and very little RF interfearance in your area you will always have some issues with WiFi.  You save your self a LOT of aggravation if you use a wired connection for any streaming video applications.

You can try trouble shooting the WiFi connection issues, but it requires technical  ability to download tools to read the connection quality, and modify admin settings on your router to try different channels and frequency ranges.  You can also setup ping tests while you are watching to see if the router is temperately freezing up.  Again these all require technical knowledge though
