Why can't I burn purchased music to CD?

I discovered I couldn't burn any Apple Music tracks to a CD (which is fair enough, I suppose, since I'm still on the free trial), so i decided to buy an album that I had already listened to via Apple Music, thinking that, since I now owned the album, i could burn it to CD.

But when i dragged the tracks from my Purchased playlist into a new playlist and clicked "Burn Playlist to CD", I got a warning telling me that some of the tracks were Apple Music and couldn't be burned. So, I went through my iTunes library and made sure that all m4p tracks by that artist had been trashed and deleted, making sure that the tracks I then dragged to the playlist were all standard m4a format.

Still no joy. The same warning that some tracks were Apple Music was displayed. i've checked. they're not.

How do i burn a CD of tracks I've legitimately purchased and downloaded through iTunes?

Ive had the same problem and think I sorted it.

it all depends on when you added the music to your iTunes library.

If added the music from Apple Music subscription before you purchased the tracks / album then you won't be able to burn CD's.

In order to burn a CD you need to firstly remove all the music you want to burn from your PC - delete it all from your library. Then go onto iTunes store and buy it again. (You should get a message telling you that youve already purchased it and can downloaded for free).

The copy on your library will then be the iTunes purchaed version that you own. You can then create playlists with this new copy and burn CD's.

Just guessing here, but after you bought the album (through iTunes I assume), did you first add the album from Apple Music to your Library? Because that might be the issue as iTunes might still be seeing that Apple Music listing for the album and anything added to your library from Apple Music (whether for streaming or downloaded) cannot be burned to a CD or converted to MP3 files because of the DRM protection.

Try deleting the album from your library and then going to your Purchases in iTunes and re-downloading it and see if that helps. Because albums you purchased directly from iTunes should be able to be burned to a CD.

problem is,I believe, you cannot burn protected content to CD, anything with DRM (so this would apply to Apple music, and any matched tracks as well).

if u have the originals u can burn those to disc. but the "Burn to Playlist" option will won't appear in newer versions of iTunes, File menu for protected content.. (this include purchased movies, books and TV shows)

Copyright restrictions... Apple doesn't want u burning to CD and giving it to someone else to listen to. (weather or not)

Apple doesn't have any info on this specially, the only thing i can find is : iTunes 12 for Mac: If you have trouble burning a disc ,which states it wrong anyway..

Apple not wanting to share info for what users shouldn't be doing. *rolls eyes*

Worked like magic. I have always been able to back up my iTunes music purchases, however, I got this odd message: "The track "name of song" in an album I purchased "is a cloud song and cannot be burned to dis." Only files on your computer's hard drive can be burned to disc.

I just followed your directions and redid the disc with a successful burn of the entire album with this song not missing this time. I guess I didn't get them all on the hard drive for some odd reason.

Thank you for your fix.

Thank you for your reply, I believe you are correct and I was dealing with some anomaly.

I checked my disc today to see that all six songs on an album I bought from iTunes actually burned properly. One of the songs was missing, so the workaround I tried apparently did not work the other day, afterall.

I went into my library on my hard drive and the complete album of songs were there. I burned a copy of my purchase directly from there.

I recreated another playlist of the album, it came through complete, and I burned another CD successfully from there to see if I could recreate the glitch and was unable to.

I have no clue why I could not download all of the songs I purchased the other day and where that strange message came from. Then when I redownloaded it, it appeared to work, but I didn't check my burn to see if it came through complete.

Well, thanks to your reply, you got me thinking and I looked at my cd again to find the fix had not worked afterall, so I just began it all over again and the problem is resolved. It all made it into my library so I figured it had to burn and it did.

Many thanks.
