Using Command **** 4 on retina display generates a Screen Shot that is around 4MB - when sent over ichat the file looks magnified to other user. How can you automatically reduce the size of screen shots?

Thank you for your solution, however since taking screen shots is a daily part of my work flow, I need the files to be automatically compressed. Similar to how it was on my old Mac.
You can also create an Automator script, it should be fairly easy. If your computer is covered by AppleCare still then give them a call, they may have a tip. I am not in front of my Mac at the moment so I can't experiment.

Open the file in Preview and you can reduce the file size there.
it likely does the same compression as your old imac but the size diffrent of the screen resolution mean it will never be the same size and your old mac
