imessage sound different than text sound

iPhone 5s : iOS 8.4

When I receive a text message, it uses the Text Tone I specified. But when I receive an imessage, it plays another sound. I can't find a setting for just an imessage sound. There is no imessage option in sound settings. Any help? I am using a custom sound for my message, will that not work for imessage?

I've had the same problem twice, for no apparent reason messages from my wife suddenly started using default text tone even though nothing had changed. Apple support advised me to reset settings -

General

Reset

Reset all Settings

This cured the problem but had to renter wifi passwords, Apple Pay cards, fingerprints change wallpaper etc etc. Ok for a one off but I've had to do it again and it's a pain in the ***

You can assign different text tones for individual contacts. I don't think you can differentiate between SMS and iMessage as a global text tone setting. To assign a specific text tone to a contact, you do so though:

Contacts, select a contact, tap the "Edit" button at the top-right, scroll down & tap "Text Tone" to make the change.

You CAN go through your messages and note which contacts use iMessage (blue text bubbles) and change the text tone to the one of your choice for just those contacts.
