Is 128GB enough for OS and other Apps Update for the next 5years

I intend to buy a new Mac book air 11.1 128GB 4GB. My worry is not so much about storing movies, music etc but whether the 128GB will be enough for updates of the OS and other usual Apps. I will usually use it for surfing mostly and also for academic stuffs like office applications and storing pdf of scientific articles etc.I dont want to be in just a year or so be asked to delete items to make way for updates like it happened with my 16GB iphone 5s.

Movie and music files tend to run large and take up disk space rather quickly, let alone OS X updates and office apps.

You'd be better off purchasing the 256GB MB air. It's only $200 more or get the 500GB for $512.

Probably not, considering the continual advances in software and operating systems.

Nowadays anything less than 1TB is considered 'small'.

128 GB is really very small, my iPad has 64 GB, so for a computer user editing and creating documents, loading photos, music, videos, you will use up 128 GB very quickly. I would get at least 512 GB if it were me.

One more voice in the chorus. 128GB is almost useless for a laptop hard drive unless you don't plan on actually using it. 512GB at a minimum, larger will save you some grief later on.

If it's going to be your primary machine, and you don't intend to store your media on an external drive, then I'd say definitely not.

I don't think I'd go quite that far. I have a MBA with 128GB and it does just fine.

It is not my primary machine. I store no photos or media on it at all. I use it for work. Internet access, RDP sessions into my servers, MS Office, accessing network equipment, remote access to the servers while on the road, personal email, streaming media while traveling, etc.

It does quite nicely for that.

As a secondary machine, I agree. But I do not get the impression that's the OP's intent.
