Why is my MBP using such a large amount of my bandwidth?

My Early 2013 MBP Retina seems to eat up a large amount of my broadband bandwidth. When the MBP is switched off my other devices are lightning fast when online but when it is switched on, they all (including the MBP itself) slow to a snail's pace. Can anybody help please?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Hi kirky_82,

If you feel that your MacBook Pro is consuming an unusually large portion of your network bandwidth, and/or if you would like to see a per app breakdown of network usage in Yosemite, you may find the Network pane of Activity Monitor helpful, as outlined in the following article:
