Pixel artifacts on screen

Hello guys, as of some time I have started experiencing random pixel artefacts on screen that flickers on and of in different colors, sometimes more like green, some other white.

Its like 10px squares distributed in an horizontal line on the lower 1/3 of the screen usually..

As soon as I move a window over that area, the issue is gone.. not sure what is triggering it.

Any ideas? thanks!!

if you're getting it through an external LCD change the cable out or use a different connection type (e.g. swap HDMI for DVI) and see if the problem is corrected. It could be cable quality, a bent pin, or a damaged connector on the hardware, I'm not ruling out software * but 9 times out of 10 for the groups I support doing graphic art I find replacing the cable works, after that it's less commonly replace the monitor.

* is anyone running 3rd party calibration software or some monitor utility outside the ones that come with OS X?

Thanks for your response!

I was originally using my HDMI output on the mac, with the HDMI input on the screen, but I noticed a clear difference in colors, so I used an adaptor to use the DVI on my external monitor (thats a HDMI to DVI adaptor)

The colors that way are exactly the same as using the MacBooks DP with a VGA/DVI monitor-

BTW, I'm using this cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008PYOMG6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_deta ilpage_o04_s00

brand new too.

I'm pretty sure it should be software related, I can't confirm but I think I didn't have this problem on mavericks.

I'm not using any calibration software.

I also have system crashes day in day out, but I was thinking it could be something related with iTunes since I started listening radio thru it.. but not sure either.

I'm considering a fresh install (😟), I have been updating since I got the machine, 3 years ago, so maybe I'm dragging errors from previous versions, drivers and who knows what...

It appears you're using Illustrator CC. If so does it only happen in Illustrator CC? If so have you asked on the Adobe Forums?

I have CC, I don't use Illustrator that often but I do have a Mac Pro that had both an ATI and an Nvidia card (two distinct machines) and I did not encounter anything like that exclusive to CC.

Are you using a 3rd party or after market GPU solution (e.g. an external sonnet box)? Is the cable connected through a Thunderbolt port?

my suggestion would be reset the PRAM and the SMC if you have not done so already.

No, it happens when I'm not using any Adobe program, I thought it could be Safari related since sometimes I'm browsing and when I scroll or something those things appear. But is so random that I can't tell for sure.

Yep, I will do the PRAM and SMC today and let you know how it goes..

The problem with this kind of problems is that I won't know if its fixed for sure..

btw, what do you think of fresh install OS X? would it be the same if I just reinstall over my installation? so I don't have to install all my software again-

UPDATE:

I can confirm that the problem is not related with the HDMI cable, I had a new issue with a different external display.

I was using my home protector to watch a movie, and I saw the artefacts on my mac screen

the proyector is VGA and is connected to the mac using a DP-VGA adapter..

So maybe the problem can be triggered when using a 2nd display, or is not related with the external display at all..

I did the PRAM reset, will update you if I still experience issues.

Thanks!
