Bought my daughter a second hand iPad at Ebgames/Gamestop today. She is only 10 but needs a tablet for school next year, so I picked up a 32gb Ipad 2. When we got it home noticed there was no serial number on the back? I can find a serial number in settings but find it odd that nothing is engraved on it. Is it possibly fake? I feels exactly like my current iPad 2.

Probably not. As long as it does not say it is registered to someone else, or cannot find the serial number it sounds legit.

Go tohttps://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do and enter the serial number from Settings > General > About and see what comes up.
There could be many reasons, may have been a model the number was not engraved, grey market, refurbished, and so on.
Did you register it with Apple?
Haven't registered it yet, just bought it a couple of hours ago.
If you go to that site and enter the serial number it will tell you how Apple has the iPad in its system.
