How to fix scratch on watch face

Long story short, I was doing house work this week, and looked down at my watch and found a HUGE scratch down the center of the screen. I was not doing anything crazy, a little laundry ect. I do not remember hitting my watch on anything. I obviously did, but it wasn't hard enough to be memorable. I have apple care, so I contacted Apple yesterday, and after a long drawn out back and forth (I had to take pictures and send to them), they told me that it was not faulty glass, and while the watches are "scratch resistant" they will still scratch. IMO These watches are WAY too expensive to get scratched doing light housework! (I have the sports edition BTW). I was also told that even though I have the apple care, apple will not recognize this as one of my "accidental damages" as it is "normal" wear and tear. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. They also told me to search though the communities to see if anyone knows HOW to fix a scratch, because basically apple won't help me here.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Depending on the actual materials used in the 'crystal' watch lens, the scratch

may or may not be removable through effort such as regular watch scratches

in poorer quality materials have been. A good jeweler may be able to have their

finishing person choose suitable polishing materials to attempt to re-finish it by

subtle removal of materials. This worked on crystal materials made from various

types of synthetic or plastic. For mineral crystal, however, it'd need to be some

thing much more capable. When I was a bench jeweler for some time, I was able

to remove scratches from a variety of surface materials. Of course, I'd had training

& experience in most aspects of manufacture & repair, with precious metals/gems.

Given the cost of the watch, one would think there may be a less costly replacement

for the crystal even if it is not under a warranty. Was a retail replacement cost given?

This is why I prefer my 48 year old Seiko Automatic diver watch, even though a tune

-up and oil change would cost me $200. according to the watch repair shop. 😎
