Q: Trying to Delete user on macbook pro

I am trying to delete a user off my macbook pro and I went into system preferences and clicked on the negative sign to delete the count and under neath the name it says deleting account but its been about 24 hours and when i try to close out system preferences but it says that is is busy and Users & Groups preferences is removing a user account and Home directory. tried to shut down my computer to try and unfreeze it and i can't do anything. HELP!!!!!
