What is up with the music app after IOS 8.4?

I downloaded IOS 8.4 thinking "Improved music app? Awesome!" I was wrong. I can't even use it. I get what they tried to do but it *****. They shouldn't have even released this update. The older version was easier to use and actually let you look at everything an artist had, but with this one it has an intermediate page for albums. I have to create a playlist for one specific artist just to listen to all their songs! I love music more than life itself but this update is complete trash. Anyone know whether IOS 9 will go back to the old music app version?

I agree, but I seriously doubt they will bring back the old app.

The UI on the new Music App is a total disaster IMO. I surely miss the simplicity of the UI of the previous music app – which is key when your on the go and need to navigate songs, playlists etc. Now it’s an incoherent mess of menus and sliding panels and user-hostile UI subtleties.

Also “new” in the Music App is that Apple decided to move audiobooks to the iBooks app. That would have worked if it would have been an improvement in terms of usability over having the audiobooks in the music app, but it’s completely the opposite. The iBooks app is slow and clunky when dealing with audiobooks. It takes forever to launch, open audio, scrub etc. It’s horrible. I don’t know what kind of reasoning that made apple think audiobooks are more sutible to be located in the iBooks app (other than perhaps the “book” in audiobook)…

It is pretty astonishing that Apple would mess up such an integral part of the iPhone experience.

You do not need to create a playlist to listen to one artists songs. When you have My Music selected in the Music app, use the drop down to make sure Artists is listed. Find the artist you want and click the icon/picture/album art to the left of their name. This will start playing the music by the artist. You can use the mini player at the bottom to make sure shuffle is turned on if you want the songs from the different albums to shuffle. Alternately, when you click on the artist you should see their picture at the top, click the three dots in the lower right of their picture and you have the Play Next feature which will add all of their songs to the current queue. And the easiest feature that most forget is Siri "Play all music by The Beatles."

I have literally dozens of albums for some artists. If I want to find a single song, but can't remember the exact name of the song or what album it appears on, then I have to shuffle my songs and hope it comes up? There is no way to view all songs from an artist, unless I expand each album one by one. Why sell a 128 GB device then assume no one will fill it with music? Also, how am I supposed to know that touching the album art has any effect, when there are no words anywhere to indicate that. I get the impression that the app designers designed the app for themselves, not for the users.

When in My Music rather thsn scrolling and selecting sn artist, use the search in the upper right and type the artist's name. You will see a section labeled Songs. Tap on Songs and you will see an alphabetized list of all the artist's songs. You can play a song from this view or you can add songs to the Up Next queue.
