I've got the spinning wheel of death on my Mac. Grrr.

Hi there:

A few months ago I upgraded my Mac to OS X 10.6 and installed the various updates that followed. I think all was working well till I started trying to "houseclean" with the MacKeeper program that I've had for some time. To clear some space on my hard drive, I made the mistake of starting to uninstall programs that I thought were extraneous and/or duplicates but have had problems ever since waiting endless time for a program to open, delayed type on a spreadsheet, and unable to open a PDF document or Adobe Reader. Think I've messed it all up. Can you suggest how I can go about fixing my problems?

I noticed on someone's previous conversation, it was suggested to have a look at the Activity Monitor but I can't even find mine. Please help!

From Finder, choose "Go" from the menu bar at the top of the screen, and choose Utilities. There you will find Activity Monitor.

MacKeeper is malicious, the source of many problems (especially lagging/slowness), and should be removed ASAP:

Thanks for the instructions on removing MacKeeper. Its really helped speed things up.

  • A problem that still remains is that Adobe Reader is still on my menu bar. I can't open it and can't remove it. To close the desktop, I have to do Command Q, but its back when I turn on again. Can you help with this?
  • Also, can I assume that it is safe now to install MacAfee or Norton AntiVirus?
