Philly_Phan I can undertstand why one would not want such a feature on a phone in a pocket, however, not all iphone/ipad/iTouch's are used in that way. Let me explain further.
I have a Sonos wireless music system at home & it is controlled via a Sonos touch screen controller, or an app on an ipad/iphone/iTouch/Android device or even a PC. The Sonos controller (model CR200) is a very well thought out controller - it drops into a charging cradle, where it spends most of its life - there is not fiddly socket-plug to align, it just uses surface contact points to make a charging connection. When it is left in its cradle (or out of it) & is stationary for a few minutes it goes into 'sleep' mode (screen goes off). When you pick it up, it detects the movement & instantly 'wakes up'. It is the 'perfect' remote! Only Sonos decided a few years ago to discontinue it & rely on ipads/iphones/iTouch etc as the only means of control for the Sonos system.
I have a couple of iPad mini's in the house & have used the Sonos App for them, but you have to faff about plugging in the ipad mini to keep it charged up / unplug if you are moving around the room or house with the ipad as the Sonos remote. I have to press 'home' button & then reenter my security passcode, then scroll to the screen where the Sonos app is & tap on it to open each time you want to change something on the Sonos system - it is a bit of a pain when you have been used to the Sonos CR200 controller - & yes, it is amazing how quickly you become lazy with these things ;-)
So I have been considering how to over come some of these hurdles & make an iOS device closer to the CR200 experience. I'm prepared to by a couple iOS devices to use as dedicated Sonos controllers, that way, with no personal info on them, I don't have to use the pass code number on the device, this removes one set of button presses. I can lock these dedicated Sonos iOS devices to the Sonos App by using the 'kiosk' mode, so that removes the need to find the App - AND critically, stops the kids using the iOS dedicated controllers as gaming consoles ;-). I think I may have found a solution for the battery charging too - IKEA sell a slip on cover for some iOS devices that stay permanently attached to the lightening connector (versions for older style connector too) & these covers can be used to contactless charge the iOS device ( http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/wireless_charging/ ).
So all that remains for me to mimick the Sonos CR200 controller with an iOS device is to find a mean to wake it up from sleep when it moves.
There must be a number of uses, beyond the normal phone type use, where wake-on-motion, or wake-on-touch, or wake-on-camera-detection would be very useful.
Hope this explains why I was asking the question & why asking for a seemingly 'odd' thing, is not so 'odd' after all.
Just wish Sonos had not discontinued the CR200, or had replaced it with something similar, rather than replying on other manufacturers hardware to control their own.
