My iPod touch 5th generation camera does not work (it just shows nothing, a black screen but with the buttons and features), and it hasn't for maybe a month. Apps like Instagram work fine, but the Camera app doesn't. The buttons in the app don't do anything.
How can I fix this?

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on the phone.
Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings
If the recommendation of the previous reply do not resolve the problem try:
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Correct, you will have to setup the iPod like it was new.
