Q: Lion to Yosemite Install Fail + User Deletion
Hi,
After finally buying an external hard-drive for my mac (mid 2011) to update to Yosemite finally, I didn't realise what problems i'd encounter.
Basically, I had backed up all my files onto my hard-drive before I mad any attempt to update my mac. I happily done all the back up to
the hard-drive, happy days! After that I then decided to update to Yosemite, going through the process of installing it.
My install took 5 hours (around to install) which I thought was fairly long, so then I restarted my mac after being instructed to.
After the computer restarted, However, it had come up to the login screen with 'Apple' user and is refusing to accept my password or any password I tried to give it, even after a couple of restarts my keyboard would not connect either! So I then had to back up the system with time machine which took another 5 hours, then putting me back to Lion without loosing any my stuff, if I didn't have my hard-drive, things would of been a lot worse.
So basically, i'm not sure what to do about this and quite nervous to even update it again and go through all the hassle. Does any one know what kind of problem has caused this, or anything at all? I have no idea what could of caused it.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Lewis

You should now have a Yosemite Recovery partition.
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. One backup is not enough to be safe. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with Disk Utility. Preferably both.
Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all data on the startup volume, so you had be better be sure of the backups. If you upgraded from an older version of OS X, you'll need the Apple ID and password that you used, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you restart, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from a backup.
