Q: iphoto album after conversion to photos album no longer sorted the way it was

I had iphoto albums sorted manually in a preferred sequence. After converting to Photos, they seem to have the same sequence, when not sorted by date, as they had when in iPhotos album. This was on my iMac.

 

I had the same photos on iPhoto on my MacBook, with albums. After I converted to Photos on the MacBook, it looked like everything was good. Since the MacBook has an SDD drive, I wanted more space, so I deleted the iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary file, since I didn't think I needed it any longer. Now, it appears that the albums lost the manually sequenced order. Sort by date is ok, but turning Sort by date off, the photos sequence is really scrambled. Does iPhoto need the iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary file to maintain the original iPhoto album's manually sorted sequence?

    No, the libraries are no longer linked after the migration, even if they are sharing the image files. (Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support)

     

     

    Are you syncing your libraries to iCloud?  That can change the albums.

    I think I found the reason why I thought that albums were not in their previous sequence. Some albums are, some are not. But, the ones that are not in sequence were actually iPhoto events that Photos converted to Photos albums. My problem, I have been creating different albums on my MacBook and iMac, and some events have similar names.  I have to develop a different process for creating albums so that I can have the same albums on both the MacBook and iMac. I know that I could us iCloud, but I do not have a super fast internet connection, so do not want to waste time uploading photos to iCloud. I will figure out a process using a memory stick to transfer albums between my two Macs (iMac and MacBook). Thanks for your response.
