Can auto-update of contacts via Exchange GAL be disabled?

I've found that the iOS 8.4 automatically updates a user's contacts with info from an Exchange Global Address List. I didn't expect this to be the case, but having run some tests on two iPhone 6 users shows that it's happening.

Unfortunately, one of the users wants to modify the contacts for various company employees, but after a day or two those changes get reverted when Exchange ActiveSync overwrites them from the GAL.

Is there a way to disable contact updating from the GAL?

Hey,

I am looking into the same issue but for iPhones 5C. I am arriving at question from a different angle. I am testing user profile Photos in GAL and pondered if they would show up in IOS. Initially they didn't then all of a sudden they where there. As a followup test I cleaned up my contacts in outlook and put in a few contact with basic info. That was yesterday. Now I am waiting to see if IOS will get more details from the exchange GAL . So far nothing, but if something changes I will let you know.
