Q: Can't log into Google Imap account

Hi,  I just downloaded and installed the latest Security update for OS X Yosemite and now  one of my Gmail accounts won't work.

The computer restarted itself to load the update and after it was finished my Apple Mail program showed the little failure icon beside my account.

I have two Gmail accounts but the one I use as my primary account is the only one that was affected.

I double checked the password and restarted Mail a couple of time also restarted the computer also but can't find the reason I can't log in to my account.

I can log into my account ok on the Google Gmail website but not through Mail.

This problem happened immediately after the security upgrade had been installed.

Would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

    Hi JmDo,

It sounds that Mail may not be able to properly connect to the Gmail servers. The article linked below details how to go  about utilizing the Mail application's Connection Doctor to determine the source of interruption in communication.

Use Mail Connection Doctor - Apple Support

    Cheers

Hi Allen, Thanks for the suggestion ,  that was the first thing I tried and found my internet connection was good but my gmail accounts had the red dots.

Unable to log in verify that username and password are correct.

I am able to log in and access my mail on the Gmail website so that isn't the problem.

I checked to see what Comcast was using for the latest ports and changed mine to match but that didn't help either.

Read somewhere that Google has upgraded their security for 3rd party Mail clients and are blaming the clients for not following suit quickly enough.

That doesn't seem like it would be the problem otherwise a heck of a lot more users would be having the same problem.

So it's back tearing my hair out , what's left

    Thanks again for the help.
