Q: MacBook Air not connecting to Thunderbolt display

I'm trying to set up a new Thunderbolt display for MacBook Air for my spouse with no luck. When plugged in, the display stays black, nothing happens. I've tried unplugging, etc. per other instructions, updated the software to be current, still no luck. I have no troubles with my MacBook Pro---plug in and display turns on, works instantly. Any thoughts? Could the Air be missing hw, maybe? Anyone else ever have this issue?

Hey etjNC,

Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are trying to use an external display for the MacBook Air, but the screen is black. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Sure did help. I now understand that this MacBook Air has a Mini Display port and even though it's same size as Thunderbolt, no can do.
Will look for a refurbished LED Cinema Display instead.
