Using a non-apple iPad connector results in "no charging"

Hi, I have an iPad Air 2, and it had charged fine using an Apple usb transformer with a USB to lightning connector. However, recently I lost the USB-lightning connector, and had to use an separate one that I found around the house. When I connect my phone to a charger with it it warns me I am using a non-Apple product, and when I connect my iPad it says "not charging". Why won't my iPad charge with it?

Likely because it's not MFi (Made for iPhone, iPad, etc) Certified by Apple. Use an Apple-made cable or MFi Certified cable for proper operation. Apple embeds an ID chip into their Lighting cables and adapters and MFi Certified manufacturers have access to the proper ID chips as well. If the cable or adapter is not identified correctly via the ID chip, you'll get this error message.
