Q: Boot Camp Windows 10 Preview Control Alt Delete

I got Windows 10 Preview running using Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro.   I then connected a second display and restarted.  The laptop booted into Windows, but the screen was very dark, and when I checked the display settings it showed that the second display was not detected.   I unplugged the external display and restarted.  Windows booted into user hibernation mode then asked to Control Alt Delete to restart or login.

I tried all combination of Control Alt Delete (including using the fn key, shift key, etc) but nothing worked.  I can boot back into OS X 10.10.4 without issue, but I cannot log in when I boot into Windows 10 Preview.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

    1. Is it a clean install or an upgrade?

    2. Are BC drivers installed?

    3. Does W10 boot in safe mode?

These are good questions, but I don't think I know how to answer them.

I installed W10 Preview and had it running without issue for a while before attempting to connect the external display.  I can't say if the BC drivers are installed. I assume that is on the W10 side?  If so, I have done nothing W10 other than install what came with it.  If by safe mode you mean, it starts to boot, then tells me user is hibernating, the goes to a screen which says press Contol+Alt+Delete to restart or login, then yes.

Please use System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support to find the BC Drivers package appropriate for your specific Mac year/model and download it to a USB2 (not a USB3) flash drive. Disconnect all other external peripherals except the USB2 flash drive. Boot into Safe Mode (F8/Shift+F8/Fn+Shift+F8) and try to repair the drivers. If not possible, remove the current W10 installation and re-install it and install the drivers on the USB2 before you lose control of the keyboard and mouse.

Your external monitor needs BC drivers to be recognized and work properly.

Thank you I will try this.  The external monitor is of a secondary concern.  I'm hoping to just be able to log into W10 without having to reinstall.
