In addition, the iPhoto and Photos libraries contain hard links to the same media files, so deleting either library won't free up nearly as much space as it looks like it will.

See: Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support. You can always save it to an external drive if you need extra space on your internal drive.
