Apple Tv only showing "Computers" and "Settings" even after restored

Hi,

Today when I turned on my Apple TV it only showed "Settings" and "Computers". When I went to the iTunes menu the location section was blank. I have tried restarting and restoring the Apple TV. I have restarted the router. It will not work on wifi or ethernet, when I try to test the connection though my Apple TV it gives me the message "Cannot connect to network". However I assume the connection is fine as it was able to update the firmware when I restored it and all my other devices are working fine.

I have an Apple TV 3 (Model A1469) running 7.2 (7512).

Please help, it's really frustrating. Thanks.

I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to post this in case anyone still encounters this issue and can't solve it.

I had the same issue and looked up EVERY possible solution on every forum but nothing worked. Resetting everything, router, trying personal hotspot, different ISP...EVERYTHING. Finally, I changed the iTunes Store Location from United States to United Kingdom and instantly all the apps appeared again! Went back to change it to United States again and the apps were still there. Seems there was something on Apples end that needed to be toggled or cycled to get it back in place.

Hope this helps.

Ok, I read back over the other threads and tried Klamparsigge's solution from here: Re: My Apple TV is stuck on the computers and settings screen, how do I get it back to the regular screen?

THIS TEXT WAS ADDED A WHILE AGO TO THE SITE I TRY IT AND WORKED OUT PERFECTLY

Connecting the Apple TV to my iPhone's hotspot kicked everything in gear, I was able to connect back to my wireless network and it still works, even after a reboot. For anyone else having this problem, it's probably not a requirement to use your phone's hotspot, any other wireless network should work.

So, it seems to me that network settings are getting corrupted somehow and for whatever reason a restore doesn't reset it. You have to connect to a new network temporarily to clear the issue.

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV

  1. You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  2. Also try restarting the router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  3. If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
  4. If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.

If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the above, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

Same problem in Chicago area. Will not read the wifi network. I am typing on now. Works through ethernet; but not a long term solution. Updated; restored; show no bars for signal strength sitting on top of the airport extreme. Through multiple restarts once in a while (for a few seconds) it IDed the network and showed full bar strength before losing it again.

I'm also having the same problem and it started occurring at the same time.

MY ATV 3, 7.2 7512 has always been connected on Ethernet with a static IP, then the channels stopped showing, however it is still on the network as i can stream from iTunes, and also use the iPhone app as a remote.

I tried changing to DHCP = however this didn't help. tried resets and restarts to all equipment and no joy.

Tried the same with 2 different wifi points on my network, no luck.

I tried the personal hotspot trick and that works, but i have to do it every time i want to use the ATV, has anyone found any other solutions yet?

Thanks

My ATV was unplugged by a cleaner in my apt today. I plugged it back in and the apps no longer load.

Here is the list of things I've done to try to fix this problem, to no avail:

Restarted. Reset. Restored to factory settings.

Unplugged router and ATV and plugged back in.

Connected via Ethernet, Wifi and phone hotspot.

Checked that location is United States.

Checked that IP and DNS are set to automatic.

Turned off and on home sharing multiple times.

.....Still nothing.

Please help!

Same problem happened to me yesterday - I have 2 apple tv's (Gen 2, Gen 3) in the house and both of them did the same thing.

Restored, changed region to Canada, a few apps popped up but not all of them, changed back to US, back to nothing...changed to UK, nothing, changed to Canada again, nothing.

I've (long) power cycled my router, disconnected all cables from the Apple TV, checked network connection...it's either on Apple's side or for some reason my router/ISP has changed my network settings and this is the only thing affected.

Very frustrating

I have had this same issue since yesterday morning. None of the icons except "computers" and "settings" come up when the Apple TV is started. I spoke to an Apple Support person yesterday and he said that they had been receiving calls of this nature all day. He told me that it was probably a server issue on Apple's side. I have not heard back on any resolution to the problem. It is very frustrating. If an Apple Support person reads this, my case number is 100056971613.

After reading all of these comments, it seems to be a cyclical thing on apple's part that they need to fix. Most people are having this problem after having their ATV for 'a little over a year' which seems interesting to me that apple hasn't found a way to prevent this from happening. I have also tried 'everything' aside from switching my location to the UK or Canada and back which I will attempt when I get home. I think the bigger issue is that this continues to happen every year to ATV users
